The position
We invite candidates who hold a masters degree (or equivalent) to send us brief (single-page) proposals for research projects that fit into the research activities of the department and that can result in a PhD thesis (monograph or collection of articles). The proposal should outline a research problem, a draft research question, and an indication of the research strategy.

University Graduate
Profile
You have a master degree in Political Science, European Studies, Public Administration or a related field in the social sciences. You have a thorough knowledge of the methodology and techniques of empirical social research, as evidenced in your master thesis. You are motivated and able to work independently as well as in collaborative projects.

The University of Twente (UT) is an entrepreneurial research university, located in Enschede, the Netherlands. Organized over five faculties, the UT offers twenty educational programs ranging from applied physics, public and business administration, communication studies and diverse programs in engineering technology. Research takes place within the context of institutes and focuses, among other things, on information and communication technology, nanotechnology, biomedical technology, policy studies, construction management & engineering, and mechanics. The School of Management and Governance (SMG) is a growing school that strives to hold a leading position in the field of business and social sciences and to do joint education and research with the technical schools of the University of Twente. The school focuses on management, governance, innovation, technology and entrepreneurship. In all these fields, the school provides bachelor, master and professional development programmes. In addition, scientific and applied research is carried out in various branches, such as health care, higher education, banking, and services business. Research is accommodated within the university research institutes: The Institute for Governance Studies (IGS), and the Centre for Telematics and Information Technology (CTIT). The school has approximately 350 staff and 2,200 students.

Employment conditions
We offer a challenging position in a stimulating environment. As a PhD candidate you will be appointed in a full-time position for a period of four years, at the end of which you must have completed your PhD thesis. The gross monthly salary for a PhD increases from 2042,- in the first year to 2612,- in the final year (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities). In addition, the University of Twente offers additional attractive employment conditions.
