The Advanced Energy Department has an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Chemist in the field of polymer chemistry to characterize new organic materials for use in light-weight batteries, fuel cells and OLED devices. (For additional information about this Department, go to http://eetd.lbl.gov/r-aet.html.)
As a Chemist Post Doc Fellow, you will:
- Characterize new polymer materials primarily for use in light-weight batteries, fuel cells and OLED devices.
- Build devices, perform electrochemical and optical measurements and post-mortem chemical characterization of polymers and organic materials.
- Evaluate effects of additives on electrochemical and thermal performance of battery systems
Qualifications
- A recent (within the last 4 years) Ph.D. in electrochemistry, batteries, OLEDs, conducting polymers, fuel cells or organic electrochemistry.
- Experience in characterization of organic electrolytes, ionically and electronically conducting polymers, including impedence spectroscopy and microscopy (AFM, TEM, SEM).
- Background in materials characterization, including operation of FT-IR, NMR, UV-VIS, chromatography (GC/MS, HPLC, GPC, CE), mass spectroscopy, chemical, and thermal characterization of polymers (DSC/TGA, DMA).
- Familiarity with air sensitive materials; experience using a glove box, Schlenk-line and vacuum deposition equipment.
- Experience in organic synthesis or polymers.
Notes
This is a full-time, one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon performance and continuation of funding. This position will be open until filled.
